eJournal M3 (Analyzing Learners)

Updated: Apr 7, 2021

The ADDIE model's analysis phase is not solely based on figuring out what you want to teach or present. It also is the time to consider your audience and how you move into the Development and Design phases of the model, tailoring the subject matter to those participating in learning about it.

Case studies regarding how an audience views material differently exist all over and on a myriad of topics; I focused on online learning and what considerations I need to make regarding my audience. "It is important to examine how different audiences may vary in the way they approach evaluation tasks" (Yuan & Recker, 2018).

Another element to consider is one's ability to deliver a message to the audience. While it is critical to know to whom you are presenting information, it is just as crucial to consider your ability to teach said material and how you will be most effective.

"There is no single choice. In light of the myriad explanations, we believe that effectiveness can be described as the extent to which teaching advances learning. That is the level at which the expertise contributes to the attainment of knowledge or skill. It may be said that from a learner's perspective, a teacher's effectiveness stems from the ability to be useful, helpful, and valuable in facilitating learning. 1 Thus, while the act of teaching involves skills unless the teaching activity is tied to a learning outcome, it is not considered effective from a learner's perspective" (Jahangiri & Mucciolo, 2012).
